Tuesday Night was Music Night!
On 25th March I was pleased to attend the
Leicestershire Schools Music Service (LSMS) Spring Gala Concert at the De Montfort Hall. The concert feature talented young musicians from LSMS including the Wind Orchestra, Training Orchestra, and the Junior and Senior Steel Pan Ensembles. We were also entertained by some of the partner groups of the Leicester-Shire Music Education Hub. There was ViVa Sinfonia who have been working with five schools in the North West of Leicestershire; and Darbar Arts Cultural and Heritage Trust and Bullfrog Arts who contributed to the inspirational programme of popular music. What a wonderful evening of music, and so encouraging to see music very much a part of the lives of our young people.

The L Factor
I attended another musical event on 27th March, of a different kind, in support of Warning Zone. The ‘L Factor’ was a live tribute show based on the iconic TV series, the ‘X’ Factor. Contestants from the Leicester business community performed with the “Pochins Y Fronts band”, for our votes. The acts threw themselves into their performances and it was a lot of fun whilst raising money for an excellent cause – Warning Zone.
Warning Zone provides a quality interactive learning experience that will help Year 6 children and upwards to make the transition safely into adolescence and become responsible members of their local community. For more information visit: www.warningzone.org.uk
Eating for a good cause!
On 28th March the Leicestershire Law Society kindly arranged a charity dinner in support of Charity Link. The Chairman of the County Council acts as a patron of Charity Link and so I was only too pleased to lend my support. It was a splendid evening and with a charity auction and raffle helping to boost the coffers. Well done to everyone who arranged this super event.

More eating for another good cause!
The Lord Mayor of Leicester, Mustafa Kamal, hosted a special black tie dinner on 29th March in support of his chosen charity, Macmillan Cancer Care. It was a very well attended event which will further boost his charity appeal.
Yet more eating for yet another good cause!!
You may notice a theme developing this week! On 30th March I joined the Lord-Lieutenant and Sir Robert Burgess at the University’s Beaumont Hall for a Curry Lunch to commemorate the centenary of the First World War. Proceeds from the event went to the Army Benevolent Fund, the Soldiers’ Charity. Set in the wonderful surroundings of the University’s Botanical Gardens, it was kind of the Vice-Chancellor to make this facility available.
