My final blog and thank you as Chairman

Magistrates’ Association Spring Conference

Image

I was pleased to host the AGM and Spring Conference of the Magistrates’ Association recently at County Hall. This was a very well attended event which featured a presentation given by the Police Commissioner, Sir Clive Loader. I had the opportunity to meet many magistrates informally and learn more about their important work, and the issues that are occupying their agenda.

The Magistrates’ Association enjoys a strong membership and undertakes valuable work supporting and representing magistrates’ interests and promoting public confidence in the magistrates’ courts system

Young Farmers

Youg Farmers LogoThis year the Leicestershire and Rutland Federation of Young Farmers Clubs held their annual County Rally at Rotherby.
I went along and had a thoroughly enjoyable day. I was so impressed by the commitment of the young people who put in a tremendous effort into the exhibits and on the day. There were over 70 competitions and hundreds of entries, which says much for the popularity of the event.

Well done to everyone who helped to create such a great day, and thank you for kindly inviting me along!

Moira Canal Festival

I was back at the Ashby Canal, this time for the brilliant weekend festival.

It was a great family day out with so much going on including: live music, morris dancing, classic vehicle display and, of course, lots of boats!

The festival is supported by the The Ashby Canal Trust (www.ashbycanaltrust.co.uk) which was formed to promote the restoration of the Ashby Canal from Snarestone to Moira, bringing together the various authorities and organisations with an interest in the canal. It comprises a Board of Directors with associated administrative assistance, and supports work parties, contributes to the ongoing restoration of the Snarestone to Measham length.

And so, it is time to pass on the baton…

At Wednesday’s annual meeting of the County Council, my term of office came to an end as I handed over to my successor, Bill Boulter. I have had a most enjoyable term of office. I have met some wonderful people and learnt so much about our county and what makes it tick. To everyone who has invited me to their events, or has come to mine, may I say a huge thank you for making my year as Chairman so memorable. I will cherish the memory of this very special year for many years to come.
