Visits to an Army training centre and local universities

Visit to Beacon Academy

On 22nd January I paid a visit to the Beacon Academy Logo
Beacon Academy in Loughborough.
I had a thoroughly enjoyable time and the children were lovely and a real credit to the school, their parents and, most of all, themselves. Keep up the good work everyone!

It was nice to see the school tweet that they enjoyed having me too!!

Celebration of Achievement

On the evening of the 22nd, I went to the Students’ Union at Loughborough University for Leicestershire County Council’s Celebration of Achievement Event for Children in Care and Care Leavers. These inspirational young people were most deserving of the recognition they received for their personal achievements.

I was humbled to present the young people with their certificates of achievement, and enjoyed meeting them to learn more about what they have done.

Defence Animal Centre

Soldier at Defence Animal CentreThis week I battled the elements to visit the Defence Animal Centre in Melton Mowbray. It was a truly memorable day, which started with a briefing by the Commandant, Lt Colonel Richard Pope. I went on to tour of the equine, canine and veterinary facilities.

The DAC really is a marvellous facility and the care for the animals is outstanding. They are trained for service and they certainly do serve their country along with their riders and handlers.

I was honoured to see the professionalism for myself and we are fortunate indeed to have this facility ion our county.Soldier2 at the Defence Animal Centre

The DAC host an annual open day, and it is well worth a visit. For details of last year’s open day visit: https://www.army.mod.uk/news/25524.aspx

University of Leicester logoI was pleased to witness post graduate degree recipients from the College of Science and Engineering and the College of Biological Sciences and Psychology, on the 23rd January, at De Montfort Hall. The university has an enviable reputation in these subjects and I am always pleased to see the culmination of many years of learning and study come to fruition on these special occasions.
