Meeting Matt, a uniquely courageous young man

I would like to highlight a charity I am supporting during my year as Chairman of the County Council – The Matt Hampson Foundation. It aims to inspire and support young people seriously injured through sport, and Matt asked me to help him further its work when I met with him last week.

You will no doubt be familiar with Matt’s personal story, following his life-changing injury whilst playing rugby for Leicester Tigers.

With the success of the 2012 Paralympics in London and the increasing interest in disabled sports, Matt would like to do what he can to make children aware of disability and the issues surrounding it.

Matt is available to visit schools to educate and inspire children by using his story to demonstrate that everything happens for a reason. His approach is to encourage people to focus on what they can do, rather what they can’t do, in life!

Sharing his own story and the stories of others, he can make a valuable impression on students and their perception of disability.
