Getting on my bike in Loughborough and Coalville

I keep reading, as I’m sure you do, about the issues of carbon emissions and climate change and of issues affecting people’s health, such as obesity and inactivity. Well there’s one way to tackle all of these issues at once – getting on your bike and pedaling your problems away!

During the last month I have attended some exciting events in Coalville and Loughborough encouraging people to change the way they travel.

Helping people to “Choose How You Move” has been well received, with families and local children coming out to show their support – and have fun – as well as one or two special guests, including Olympic Gold Medalist Dani King and European Champion Flatland BMX cyclist Keelan Phillips.

The routes in and around the two towns will make it easier for people to cycle and walk between their destinations, cutting down the need to make trips in their cars. I can vouch for them myself – as you can see from the pictures!

Watching the smiles of adults and children discovering the new cycling routes and walking routes has been a joy for me. This work continues to help the local economy, by tackling the problems of congestion, physical inactivity and carbon emissions.

I do think it is a tremendous achievement, and there are so many schools, partners and volunteers involved in this who have helped us with our work – I would like to thank them all.
